My Services

My work emerges from a strong foundation of over 35 years in mindfulness and meditative practices. This training allows me to listen deeply and see clearly the issues you are facing. I am a certified mindfulness teacher and can teach you how to use mindfulness to increase focus and concentration, be with difficult emotions and live your life in greater harmony.  I strive to create a non-judgmental and supportive place for you to understand yourself and those around you better, and to make the changes you need to make. Whether I am working with children, adults, couples or families, I bring the experience from many diverse fields including neuroscience, cognitive psychology and emotionally based therapies.

I am certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and have significant experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression and substance use.  I can help you learn how to spot unhelpful or inaccurate ways of perceiving situations and teach you tools for evaluating and changing thought patterns.  However, often changing how you think is just the first step.  Some of the most powerful and lasting changes I have seen come from going deeper into the realm of emotions and learning how to be with difficult and confusing feelings.  To this end, I use meditation, mindfulness-based therapy and Internal Family Systems therapy to help you develop a healthy relationship with yourself.

I have been working with children and teens for over 23 years.  I use play therapy and art therapy to put children and teens at ease and allow an avenue of expression beyond words.  I find art and play are very useful in engaging children who may be reluctant to come to therapy.  Some of the games are specifically designed to teach skills like communication, social skills, emotional regulation, cognitive restructuring, etc.  Some are just regular games that we use to create relationship and provide an avenue for developing emotional awareness, insight and regulation skills.  I have significant experience  and greatly enjoy working with transgender and LGBTQ youth.

Whenever I work with children, I also work with their parents.  We all exist in relationship to each other, and those relationships have a significant impact on our behavior and emotions.  I can help you understand your child's mental health condition and learn specific strategies and tools to help your child change.  I also have some great communication tools that will help you communicate with your child and help your child feel understood.

One of the greatest challenges families face, is not being able to understand and communicate with each other effectively.  I can provide a safe place for you and your family to be able to express how you feel and what you need, and the tools to be able to do that effectively. I am quite skilled at hearing the message underneath the words, which can help you really understand where your partner or child is coming from and how your behavior affects them and vice versa. I do my best to listen in an impartial, non-judgmental way, so that all members of the family feel equally supported.

I teach Non-Violent Communication (Marshall Rosenberg) to help couples communicate more deeply, and express their thoughts, needs and feelings clearly and effectively.  I can provide a safe place for you and your partner to work through the underlying issues that are sabotaging your ability to be intimate safely. I can help you understand your needs and how to express them effectively, as well as help you empathically receive your partners communication. I do my best to listen in an impartial, non-judgmental way, so that all members of the family fee equally supported.  When I work with couples, I will see both parties individually as well as together.
